Steeped in the beaches of the Costa Blanca, Valencia is perfect for a city break at the seaside. With its thriving student population, Valencia is ideal for the budget traveler, cheap food can be collected from the Mercat Central, there are dozens of buzzing bars and nightclubs, and the entrance to the galleries is not too expensive.

To save even more, it's easy to find a shelter near Valencia in the center of the city, ranging from dorms (to negotiate for the backpacker) to ultra cheap boutique, with all the amenities you would find at a hotel. Here's a guide to the best hostels in Valencia.

ABC B & B:

Have bed and breakfast, where they have a more intimate and private than the average hostel, and is ideal for couples. The rooms are spacious with minimalist decor, fresh, and dozens of features, from a flat screen TV and free coffee or towels, chocolates and water bottles. Some rooms have their own private garden and Apple Mac computers! The hostel is a few blocks from Old Town, close to some of the best restaurants in town, and you can start your day with breakfast served in bed.

The Purple Nest Hostel

The Purple Nest is one of the hostels in Valencia with air conditioning, which is a great advantage in the hot summer nights! The relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff behind the Purple Nest, is popular with first time visitors, staff can help with anything from them maps of the city and there are excursions on foot or bicycle rental. The rooms are a mix of dorms and private rooms, and there is a roof deck with magnificent views over the city. Pension Playa de Valencia

This new hostel and guesthouse is ideally situated for excursions to the beach, with good transport links into the city center by tram and metro, and in some local markets that are nearby. The owner is a young English guy who speaks Spanish, Italian and French, and the hostel has a range of organized nights of Valencia's best bars and music clubs, flamenco and jazz and hip hop.

This hostel is cool and colorful, ideal for backpackers, and is only 10 minutes walk from the bus station and train station. The comfortable lounge with free internet and sociable communal kitchen is the perfect place to meet other travelers, and there is a lively events calendar, with some tapas and walking tour of the city of Valencia. Other useful things are private Spanish lessons (for those of another speaker) and tickets for the Arts and Science Museums.
